Historic Highway 90 is known as Lafayette Street in the City of Southern Charm, and is just minutes away from Chipola College, home of the 2017 NJCAA National Baseball Champions and the newly renovated Dr. Gene Prough Center for the Arts. With so much talent and diversity stemming from the college, it only makes sense that locals showcase it as well.
Artistic Designs Unlimited is a flower and gift shop where owner Michael makes beautiful custom arrangements right in front of your eyes, allowing the customer to have a say in what they are purchasing.
Special birthday or anniversary coming up? Smith and Smith Jewelers and Watson Jewelers have you covered! Both of these fine jewelry retailers offer pieces for every occasion. Made in Florida
It wouldn’t be rural Florida without a trip to the farm and Jackson County runs no shortage of those! Throughout the year, many farmers open their farms to the public for U-Pick shopping of fresh produce. Places like Jackson Farms, Blue Acres Farms, Fox Hollow Vineyard, Powell’s Tree Farm, Farren Farms, and many others are about as fresh as Florida gets. Cattle sales are offered at Southern Cattle Company and the Graceville Goat, Chicken, and Sheep Auction starts at 5 pm every Thursday.
In November, Cherokee Satsumas opens their doors for the very short satsuma season that you don’t want to miss. Satsumas were so popular in Marianna in the 1920s that a festival was dedicated to the easy to peel relative of the mandarin.
Unfortunately, the Satsuma Festival came to an end, but other festivals highlighting Jackson County’s rich agrarian roots still remain. You can find farm-fresh items and artisan crafts at events like Farm City Festival, Robert E. Long Cane Syrup Cook Off, Graceville Harvest Festival, Malone Pecan Festival, and Marianna City Farmer’s Market. Other shopping events are staged throughout the year showcasing the local talent. Art in the Park is held each May and combines an art contest, silent auction, and outdoor gallery of multiple forms of artwork. Starting in November each year.
Chic Antiques
With the rise in popularity of do-it-yourself projects, farmhouse chic décor, and unique vintage finds, comes the need for antique stores and flea markets.
Everything Country in Sneads is Jackson County’s largest antique mall, with dozens of vendors selling anything from vinyl records to complete collections of hard to find vintage Pyrex. Some vendors will have sales periodically, scoring an even greater deal for the customer. The Market is a similar concept in Graceville open only on Saturdays.
In Marianna, places like PC Oak and Brass, Country Cottage Antiques and Gifts, and Living Life Repurposed are a paradise for collectors. If you’re looking for antiques to repurpose or rehab on your own, Country Cottage and PC Oak and Brass are the perfect stops. Both locations make use of their space – a country cottage and an old warehouse – and are filled to the brim with exciting finds. Living Life Repurposed takes the work out of restoring vintage finds for those that don’t have the time or materials needed to do the work on their own. Each of their pieces has been beautifully restored so that it is ready for use when you pick it up. They also offer repurposing services to help create the perfect look for your own vintage find!
