A stop on the Jackson County Spanish Heritage Trail, this interpretive kiosk tells the story of the old Spring Creek Settlement. Established in the vicinity in 1819-1820 when Florida was still a Spanish colony, this settlement was one of the first American communities in Florida. Settlers crossed the line from present-day Alabama to settle on the rich lands where Campbellton later grew. The land here was more open thanks to an early Spanish settlement called San Antonio and a later Creek Indian settlement called Pucknawhitla. Many of the original settlers are buried in the church cemetery.
